On this day trip from Panama City, you'll travel to the locks on the Atlantic Ocean to admire one of the most amazing works of engineering in the world: the Panama Canal. Don't miss it!
Day Trip Details
At the designated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Panama City and hop on a bus to head to the Atlantic Coast of Panama. After a little over an hour's drive, we'll arrive at our destination: the Agua Clara Locks.
The Agua Clara Locks is one of the entrances to the Panama Canal from the Atlantic and connects the ocean with Gatun Lake, the largest lake in the canal. It was opened to transit in 1913 and in its day became the largest artificial lake in the world.
Once there, we'll witness the passage of the ships through the lock, observing how the system of gates lifts the ships almost 26 meters (85 feet). Amazing!
During our day trip, we'll visit the Agua Clara Visitor Center and check out the new expansion of the canal, made to allow the passage of larger vessels.
There, you'll have free time to have lunch if you wish and continue admiring this impressive engineering work and Gatun Lake. We may even see crocodiles from the lookout points.
Finally, we'll take you back to the starting point, where we'll arrive 5 hours after pickup.
