Legend has it that Napoleon Bonaparte, who was somewhat self-conscious about his short stature, decided to make everyone else feel his frustrations. How did he do that? In 1805, after the French victory in the Battle of Austerlitz, the perfect occasion presented itself: he ordered a large monument to be built that would not only commemorate the victory but also make anyone who admired its outstanding architecture feel small and insignificant. And so, the Arc de Triomphe project came to life, although ironically Napoleon did not live to see the finished masterpiece.
Under the Arc de Triomphe, which stands tall and the end of the famed Champs-Élysées, you can see the names of the main Napolean victories engraved in the walls. Just below these inscriptions, there is also the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, with an eternal flame that burns in memory of the fallen who were never identified in both World Wars.
With your ticket to the Arc de Triomphe, you'll also be able to visit the exhibition inside the monument. Plus, you won't have to wait in line to get in! And don't miss your opportunity to climb the spiral staircase to the top of the monument, where you'll also see objects dating back to the Napoleon era.
The ticket also gives you access to Arc de Triomphe's viewpoint. From this privileged position, you'll enjoy incredible views of the Champs-Élysées, the Eiffel Tower and the banks of the River Seine. This is the perfect spot to take the most beautiful photos of Paris.
