Illustrious Women of Quito Free Tour
Illustrious Women of Quito Free Tour
We will meet up at a time of your choosing in La Alameda Park, where we will start talking about the most relevant women in the history of Ecuador. We will discover the story of Manuela Sáenz, the brave woman who supported Simón Bolívar as we walk through this 16th-century park, the oldest in Quito!
Besides dusting off the forgotten history of these pioneers of Ecuador, we will also visit Quito's must-see places, such as the Plaza Grande square and the magnificent Basilica of the National Vow, the tallest of all the neo-Gothic churches in Latin America.
Walking through the old town, we will pass by the elegant house of Manuela Cañizares, the driving force behind Ecuador's independence, and we will enter the María Augusta Urrutia House Museum. The lessons this Quito aristocrat gave about solidarity and empathy remain very much alive in the memory of the local people.
To familiarize ourselves with the typical melodies of Ecuador, we will visit the Museo del Pasillo museum, dedicated to Carlota Jaramillo, nicknamed the "queen of the national song". Afterward, we will visit the Museo del Carmen Alto to learn about the history of Marianita de Jesús, the only saint from Quito.
We will continue to speak about these fantastic females as we explore downtown Quito. The last stop on the free tour of the illustrious women of Ecuador will be Manuela Sáenz's house. We will emphasize her feminist legacy and her role as a defender of women's rights.
Finally, we will end the tour after three and a half hours of visiting the most feminine face of Ecuador.
