Golden Circle Horse Riding Tour

At around 9 am on the day of your tour, you'll be picked up from your selected hotel or meeting point in central Reykjavik. Setting off from the Icelandic capital, you'll embark on the 40 minute bus ride to Hveragerði. Just outside of this town, you'll reach an equestrian centre where your horses will be waiting for your adventure riding around the Golden Circle. Did you know that Icelandic horses are the only breed in the country and aren't permitted to return if they're exported? The majestic creatures have many special characteristics which you'll discover on your tour!

The first stop on your horse riding route around the Golden Circle will be at Geysir and Strokkur, two breathtaking geysers which erupt columns of boiling water up to 230 feet (70 metres) and 66 feet (20 metres) respectively. So important are these impressive natural hot springs that the English language word for geyser comes from this particular area of Iceland!

Your horseback riding tour will continue onwards to the stunning Gullfoss, or Golden Falls in Icelandic. This spectacular waterfall is located in an enormous canyon on the Hvítá River and its sheer size will doubtless leave you speechless: there are few words to describe its dramatic beauty. Don't forget your camera!

From Gullfoss, you'll trot over to the Thingvellir National Park, a magnificent valley of huge historical, cultural and geological importance. The meeting point of two tectonic plates, it also played host to meetings of an important Icelandic institution for many centuries: do you know what it was?

At the end of your horse riding tour of the Golden Circle, you'll reach the Hotel Eldhestar. Here, you'll be treated to a light lunch of bread and a warming soup to renew your energy. After eating, you'll return to Hveragerði, where you'll take the bus back to your original pick up point in Reykjavik, arriving back at around 6 pm.
