Explore one of America's most famous prisons on this immersive tour of Alcatraz Island with an audio guide, where you'll learn about American history, justice, and resistance. Round-trip ferry ticket and admission included!

Tour Details

At the designated time, head to the Pier 33 - Alcatraz Landing to board a ferry to Alcatraz Island, one of America's most famous prisons. Are you ready for an experience that goes beyond Alcatraz's prison walls?

After a 15-minute ferry ride, you'll reach your destination and step into this famous prison in San Francisco. With your audio guide, you'll learn about the prison that was once the most feared federal penitentiary in the United States. Did you know Alcatraz Island had infamous inmates like Al Capone, the gangster Machine Gun Kelly, and Robert Stroud, known as the "Birdman of Alcatraz?"

You'll discover how Alcatraz Island had military prisoners and a Civil War fort, as well as how it was the site of an Indigenous occupation that lasted 19 months. This event helped reshape Native American rights in the United States.

The immersive audio guide will share soundscapes, historical reenactments, and untold stories, from the moment the prison was created to the protests that redefined it. You'll wander through hidden gardens, ruins of the warden's mansion, and discover lesser-known corners of the island, uncovering the history within its walls.

But that's not all! You'll also receive the official Alcatraz Cellhouse tour with an audio guide, which takes you through the inside of the prison. On this special tour, you'll hear chilling stories from former guards and inmates, some of whom were in solitary confinement, and walk the same corridors as those who once tried and failed to escape "The Rock."

After exploring Alcatraz Island, you'll board the ferry again and return to the starting point, concluding this activity 2 to 4 hours later.
