Not sure how to get from San José to La Fortuna? This minibus transfer will let you enjoy a comfortable journey with a stop in Sarchí.
Activity Details
At the scheduled time, we’ll pick you up from your hotel to begin a journey of around 5 hours heading north. Along the way, we’ll travel through the green, rolling landscapes of the Central Valley, dotted with cattle farms, coffee plantations, and pineapple fields.
Halfway through the journey, we’ll make a stop of approximately 1 hour in Sarchí, a destination recognized as a cultural heritage site of Costa Rica.
This picturesque town is famous for its colorful wooden art and ox carts decorated with floral and geometric motifs. We’ll use the break to visit a handicraft factory, where you’ll be able to watch master artisans at work and purchase authentic pieces of local art.
You’ll also see the largest ox cart in the world. It’s a 15-meter-long (49 ft) structure registered in the Guinness Book of Records.
After this experience, we’ll continue on to La Fortuna, passing farmland and small rural villages until the Arenal Volcano appears on the horizon.
Finally, we’ll drop you off at La Fortuna’s central park or at your hotel, provided it’s located on the main street.

What to Do in La Fortuna?
Once in La Fortuna, you’ll be able to relax in a setting where nature takes center stage. It’s one of Costa Rica’s most captivating destinations. Welcome!
You can visit the famous hot springs of Arenal Volcano, where natural springs flow through tropical gardens, creating steaming pools. Very close by is La Fortuna Waterfall, a cascade of more than 70 meters (230 ft) that plunges between fern-covered walls.
If you enjoy adventure, you can go zip-lining through the rainforest canopy, horseback riding, or kayaking and paddleboarding on Lake Arenal, with the volcano’s silhouette as a backdrop.
And if you’re looking for something much more relaxed, Arenal Volcano National Park offers trails where you can spot tropical birds and vividly colored butterflies. Of course, at the end of the day, there’s nothing better than enjoying a traditional casado (plate of traditional food) at one of the town’s cozy restaurants, known locally as sodas.
