Follow in the footsteps of Pablo Neruda and be seduced by the deep blue Pacific ocean crashing against the rocky coastline of Isla Negra. Besides visiting the famous poet's house, we will also discover a traditional village with a rich artisan heritage.

Isla Negra and Pomaire Trip

After collecting you from your hotel early in the morning, we will head to a stretch of idyllic coastline in central chile known as Isla Negra. This area was originally called Las Gaviotas but was renamed by the poet Pablo Neruda in honor of the huge craggy rocks which line the seashore.

Pablo Neruda owned three homes in Chile, but his favorite was here in Isla Negra. We will visit this house, which was made to resemble a boat. Inside you will discover all kinds of nautical memorabilia, such as figureheads, sailboat replicas, tiny model boats inside ancient bottles, seashells, and whale teeth. All the objects inside this house play some role in the poetry of the Nobel Prize winner.

After learning all the secrets about Neruda's final residence, we will head behind the house to see the graves of the poet and his muse, Matilde Urrutia, on a clifftop overlooking the wild Pacific ocean. As we take a delightful stroll along the beach and admire the contrasting blue ocean and black rocks, you will hear why Neruda was so fascinated in this coastal region.

Before leaving Isla Negra, we will visit a local book and handicrafts shop. You will also have free time to have some food where and how you want.

On the way back to Santiago, we will make a stop to visit Pomaire, a small town famous for its artisan pottery. Here, you will learn all about this clay artform and admire some of the famous smooth, red-toned ceramic artworks of this region. We will also head down the main street of Pomaire to browse the artisan shops brimming with pottery and ceramic products and artworks.

After a full day exploring Isla Negra and Pomaire, we will start the return journey to Santiago. The tour finishes back at the same hotel from where you departed.
