Visit the Romanesque remains of the Cathedral of Santiago and delve into the fascinating past of this world-famous monument to the ninth century, period when the remains of St. James the Elder were found in Galicia. From then, the primitive Romanesque temple became more and more famous thanks to the Camino de Santiago.
The Jacobean route is still extremely popular. Discover some of the best kept secrets of this “camino” while you admire the works of art housed in the Museo de la Catedral. You will also learn about the Codex Calixtinus, a bibliographic gem, which they tried to steal once.
Next, embark on a guided tour of the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral. Visit the famous Chapel of La Corticela, where you can contemplate a representation of the Adoration of the Wise Men.
Behind the High Altar, you can give a big hug to St. James’ sculpture, one of the main traditions in the Cathedral, as well as the botafumeiro. The origin of this last one was to try and make the church smell nice because after all the pilgrims visiting it.
This tour will come to an end at Plaza del Obradoiro, next to the west façade of the Cathedral.
Important information
Until further notice, it will not be possible to hug the statue of St. James as is tradition. Please also note that from the 28 January 2019, the Cathedral has been undergoing restoration works, blocking the pews in the central nave. The works do not obstruct the rest of the views of the building's magnificent art and architecture.

- Tours or activities will not consist of more than 5 people per group.
- A safe distance of one metre between clients will be maintained whenever possible.
- The use of masks is obligatory. The client must bring their own mask.
- Alcohol gel will be available before, during, and after the service.
- The temperature and wellness of all those taking part in the service will be monitored daily, excluding and maintaining in quarantine any who display fever or symptoms.
- Showing your voucher on your phone will be enough, and it is not necessary to print anything.
- Alcoholic drinks are not available.
