Join us as we delve into Tokyo’s millennia-old history on this guided tour of the Asakusa neighborhood, a magical spot where ancient traditions blend with the hustle and bustle of modern life. You’ll breathe in the essence of Japan at every turn!

Tour Details

We’ll meet at the designated time next to the Asakusa subway station to begin our walking tour of one of Tokyo’s most fascinating and historic neighborhoods.

We’ll start by heading to the imposing Kaminarimon Gate, whose name means “Gate of Thunder.” We’ll stop to admire its statues and its gigantic red lantern, which stands nearly 12 m (39 ft) tall. After passing through it, we’ll enter the Nakamise shopping street. As we stroll along, the aroma of freshly baked sweets will tempt us to try a local snack or browse the craft stalls that have been run by the same families for generations.

At the end of this lively avenue, the highlight of the tour awaits us: Sensoji Temple. It's the oldest and most important Buddhist shrine in Japan’s capital. As we explore its grounds, the guide will share details about its origins. Did you know it’s the most visited religious site in the world, with more than 30 million visitors a year? Right next door, we’ll discover the Asakusa Shrine, a peaceful haven dedicated to the founders of Sensoji.

Next, we’ll take a pleasant 15-minute walk along the banks of the Sumida River until we reach Ushijima Shrine. Here, locals come to stroke the statue of the “nade-ushi” ox to bring good luck. Feel free to follow the tradition!

Afterward, we’ll walk about ten minutes toward Tokyo Solamachi, a shopping complex full of charming cafes and boutiques, until we reach the base of the Tokyo Skytree, the tallest tower in the country.

After a 3-hour tour, we’ll wrap up the tour at this final stop.
