Walking Tour, Doge's Palace & St. Mark's Basilica

At 9 am, we will meet at Piazza San Marco, from where we will begin our tour of the city of canals. We will take the opportunity to walk around the square to admire its monuments.

The tour continues through the Piazza di Santa Maria Formosa, where we will see a church bearing the same name, and then we will reach the Campo de SS. Giovani e Paolo. Here, we will find the famous Pantheon of Venice, as well as the Great School of Charity. As travel enthusiasts, we cannot miss out on the House of Marco Polo, the most renowned traveler in history. Leaving behind the Malibran Theater, one of the most important theaters between the 17th and 18th centuries, we will take the bustling Mercerie Street to return to Piazza San Marco and visit its two most iconic buildings.

First, we will enter the Doge's Palace, where we will stroll through the rich rooms from which the powerful Doge of Venice decided the fate of the duchy. On this visit, we will delve into an era of magnificence and opulence, climbing golden staircases and admiring the works of art of famous painters such as Titian and Tintoretto. Then, we will go down to the dungeons, where the convicts were taken through the Bridge of Sighs. This is where we will reveal which prominent figures were imprisoned in their cells.

Next, we will enter the Museum of The Basilica of San Marco, where we will learn about the origins of the temple as we walk through the exhibition rooms. We will admire its beautiful mosaics and then go out to the terraces to discover the interesting story of the Four Horses of San Marco. After leaving the basilica, we will end the tour at 1 pm.

Itinerary Changes

Due to changes in operation, the skip-the-line service is temporarily suspended, and therefore all visitors will have to wait in line to enter the basilica.

From Monday to Saturday, the entrance will be on the ground floor of the basilica (the Pala d'Oro will be visible in the distance). Then, you'll go up to the upper floor to visit the museum, where you'll also be able to see the mosaics, after which you can go outside onto the terrace.

On Sundays and public holidays, visitors will enter directly from the upper floor to visit the museum and the outdoor terrace. The first floor will not be visited, as it is where mass takes place. On these days it will not be possible to see the Pala d'Oro or the mosaics.
