Stone Town Tour
The guided tour of Stone Town will begin at 8 am at the ferry terminal. From there we'll walk to the centre of the capital of Zanzibar to see some of its most important monuments.
The first stop will be at the Old Fort, which was built by the Omanis in 1689 and served as a defence against the Portuguese. Next to this fortress is the House of Wonders, filled with stunning wooden doors, carved with inscriptions from the Quran. Did you know that it was the first building on the island to have electricity?
Then we'll head to the old Sultan's Palace, which today is a museum of the royal family of Zanzibar: a stunning palatial building! We'll also visit the Hamamni Persian Baths, one of the many footprints of the empire left in Stone Town.
Afterwards, we'll stop outside the Christ Church, one of the most impressive monuments in the historic centre; all that's left of Stone Town from the 1860s. As we admire this incredible the monument to the region's slaves, we'll learn all about the history of this decade.
We'll finish the guided tour of Stone Town at the Ithnashiri Dispensary, built by an Indian merchant in the 19th century.
