San Sebastián, Hondarribia & Getaria Day Trip Details
Day Trip Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Puppy flower sculpture, next to the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, and we'll head east from there.
After about a 1.5-hour journey, we'll arrive at the capital of Gipuzkoa, where we'll have a 30-minute guided tour of San Sebastián. Along the promenade of La Concha beach, we'll learn why royalty and the wealthy classes chose this destination for their summer holidays.
Belle Époque buildings adorn this area of the city. In fact, some hotels still retain the romantic and elegant atmosphere of those golden years. The most outstanding example is the Hotel María Cristina, a regular place to stay for actors and directors taking part in the famous San Sebastián Film Festival.
At the end of the tour of Donostia, as this city is known in Basque, you'll have an hour of free time in San Sebastián. Afterwards, we'll continue our route and, after a 45-minute drive, we'll reach the beautiful town of Hondarribia.
Upon arrival, we'll take a 45-minute guided tour of the oldest part of the town, where we'll see the Parador and the gates of Santa María and San Nicolás. Its houses with wooden balconies are gorgeous!
After this walk, you'll have 1.5 hours of free time for lunch and shopping in Hondarribia. From there, we'll take the road that will take us to Getaria, where you'll have an hour to explore the town where the designer Cristóbal Balenciaga was born.
From Getaria, we'll return to the meeting point in Bilbao, where we'll conclude this 10.5-hour day trip.
