    The Alexandria tour was expertly guided throughout, the Catacombs carved deep in to bedrock were a treasure; Pompey’s pillar is 700 tone marvel of precision engineering and a logistical mystery. The fort of Alexandria and the surrounding citadel have been beautifully restored and the view of the City from here is panoramic. The modern building of the Alexandria library houses both ancient and more contemporary treasures and manuscripts and an in-house guide gives a presentation worth a listen.
