Discover the wild nature of Patagonia and hike across the magnificent glacier of Perito Moreno when you take this hiking trip.
Hiking in Glacier Perito Moreno
We'll meet up in the morning in the Bajo Las Sombras port, where we will board a ferry to take us across Lake Rico. Once we reach the other side, we will begin our trek to the Perito Moreno Glacier. We'll arrive at the opposite coast after approximately 20 minutes of navigation in front of the south face of the Perito Moreno Glacier.
When we disembark, we'll meet the mountain guides, who will lead us to a shelter. From there, we'll take a short walk along the shore of the lake for about 1 kilometre. We'll enjoy a talk on glaciology in general and on the Perito Moreno Glacier in particular!
When we reach the edge of the glacier, the guides will form several groups of a maximum of 20 people each and it will be time to put on the crampons. Once on the ice, after a brief talk, we'll start the hike. During this tour, we'll appreciate a great variety of typical glacier formations such as cracks, drains, seracs, lagoons... At the end of the walk on the ice, we'll return to the refuge by a footbridge that crosses the exuberant Andean Patagonian forest.
Finally, you can take the boat back to the port and then go overland to the footbridges to observe the glacier from the main balcony or from its different paths.
Depending on the option chosen in your reservation, we can pick you up at your hotel in El Calafate or meet you directly at the Bajo Las Sombras port.
