Free Walking Tour of Hanoi
Learn all about Vietnam's fascinating history as you explore Hanoi's Old Quarter. Discover the secrets and surprises hiding in the capital city on this free walking tour.
Hanoi Free Walking Tour Itinerary
Your free walking tour of Hanoi will begin in Phung Hung, a street in the heart of the city centre from which you'll head to the Vietnamese capital's most popular shopping spot: the Dong Xuan Market. Learn curious facts about the enormous historic market, which was originally built in 1889 under the French Administration. Which products are most in demand? And which are the most expensive?
Continue your guided walking tour over to the emblematic Hoan Kiem Lake, which has given its name to the urban district in which it is located. The lake is one of Hanoi's most scenic spots, and locals and tourists alike can be seen enjoying views over to Turtle Tower and the Temple of the Jade Mountain, located on their own islets in the lake. Cau The Huc, a red-painted wooden bridge leading to the temple, is a popular photo spot for loved-up couples.
Delve deeper into the historic streets of Hanoi's Old Quarter, where you'll take a break from admiring the typical French Indochina architecture to stop in a traditional cafe and sample a local delicacy: Vietnamese egg coffee.
The free walking tour will come to an end by St Joseph's Cathedral. Would you ever have imagined such a dramatic Neo-Gothic church in Hanoi? The city is full of contrasts just like this, which you'll discover along your route.
