Auschwitz Birkenau Concentration Camp and the Wieliczka Salt Mine are the most-visited sights in Poland. Discover both attractions on the same day with this full-day Krakow combo tour and save money.
Board a comfortable air-conditioned coach from the historic center of Kraków and sit back while you head west to Oświęcim (Auschwitz in German) with an informative documentary (in English) on the way.
During the first part of the tour, you will follow the same itinerary as the Auschwitz-Birkenau Half-Day Trip. Once you get to the destination, you will first explore Auschwitz I, initially built to house political prisoners. Follow your local English-speaking guide into the various blocks to discover the permanent exhibitions explaining the atrocities committed in this site. Then, visit the only remaining gas chambers and crematoriums.
Next, head to Auschwitz II-Birkenau, built in 1941 as an extermination camp. It was established as part of the Nazi plan to exterminate the Jews, known as the “Final Solution of the Jewish Question”. Once you visit the barracks, the train tracks and the remains of the crematoriums, hastily destroyed by the Nazis before fleeing the area, you will return to Krakow by coach. Once you get to the Old Town, you will have time to have lunch or go for a walk before continuing the tour.
Wieliczka Salt Mine
In the afternoon, meet your guide in the city center of Kraków at 3:30 pm and set off to discover the Wieliczka Salt Mine.
Upon arrival, walk down 350 steps and into one of the oldest salt mines in Europe. Discover over 20 salt-chiseled rooms, some of which are beautifully decorated during the 3.5 kilometers (2.1 miles) walking-tour, as well as underground lakes, the tools and utensils used by the miners and curious salt-made sculptures and low reliefs.
Enter the Chapel of St. Kinga, a startling 54-meter temple, decorated with large chandeliers and a beautiful altar made of salt.
After an extensive tour of the Salt Mine, hop back on the coach and drive back to Krakow. You will be dropped off at the city center.
