Alcazaba & Roman Theatre Free Tour
Immerse yourself in the history of Malaga on this free walking tour of the ancient Roman theatre and the historic Alcazaba, a fortress from the Muslim period.
Alcazaba & Roman Theatre Free Tour
After meeting at Crystal Pyramid, Calle Alcazabilla, 4, we'll begin this free tour of Malaga's Alcazaba and the Roman Theatre.
During the tour, we'll learn all about the vestiges of Ancient Rome from the 1st century AD that can be found in Malaga. To delve deeper into the period, we'll visit one of the main monuments from that time still preserved in the city: the Roman Theatre.
We'll be able to distinguish all the different parts of the theatre, including the stands, or cavea. Just behind the theatre, on the slopes of Mount Gibralfaro, is the Alcazaba of Malaga. This hilltop palace-fortress from the Muslim Andalusian period will remind us to some extent of the Alhambra in Granada.
After admiring its defensive walls, we'll enter inside the Alcazaba. We'll see the Plaza de Armas, in which we'll find a beautiful Andalusian garden, and the Torre de la Vela. We'll visit important rooms of this Nasrid palace such as the so-called 'Cuartos de Granada', where medieval governors and royals resided during their stay in Malaga.
We'll finish the free tour at one of the Alcazaba's viewpoints. From there you'll have a fantastic view of Malaga marina.
