Tour Options

When booking this Harlem tour and gospel mass, you can choose between two options: a tour by vehicle or a walking tour. Both last approximately 4 hours and start in a central area of Manhattan. For the vehicle option, transportation to Harlem is by minibus or bus. For the walking option, you’ll travel to Harlem by subway.

Here’s what each option includes:

Tour by Vehicle

We'll meet at the Starbucks located on 325 W 49th St, and from this spot in the Big Apple, we'll head by bus toward Harlem, one of the most unique neighborhoods in New York, located in the north of Manhattan. Once we arrive, we'll begin a panoramic tour to discover the most interesting places in the neighborhood.

First, we'll see the outside of the Cotton Club, a place that inspired the movie of the same name and where jazz began to emerge. From here, we'll reach the Casa de la Señora Clara McBride Hale, known as Mother Hale. This woman founded the Hale House Center, a home for unwanted children and children born to drug-addicted mothers.

Later, we'll visit the General Grant Memorial, a mausoleum where Ulysses S. Grant, war hero and the 18th president of the United States, and his wife Julia Grant, lie to rest.

After the panoramic tour of Harlem, we'll enjoy the main event of the day: the gospel mass. The time we stay depends on the day and the number of visitors in the church.

After 4 hours, we'll conclude this activity at 59th Street, in Meat Town Manhattan.

Walking Tour

If you select the walking option, we'll meet at 329 W 49th Street, and from this spot in Manhattan, we'll travel by subway to Harlem.

Once we reach this renowned neighborhood in New York, we'll start our guided walking tour. On this tour, we'll see some of Harlem's most famous murals, including I Love Harlem, Spirit of HarlemLebron Malcolm X, Planet Harlem, and  Education is not a Crime

This tour focuses on Harlem’s street art and cultural identity. You’ll see some of the area’s most famous murals, including I Love Harlem, Spirit of Harlem, and other powerful works that reflect the neighborhood’s heritage and social history.

You’ll also pass important landmarks such as the Apollo Theater and the historic Hotel Theresa.

We'll also take a short break so you can grab a drink and end our walking tour in a local church, where you’ll attend a live gospel mass and witness the moving sound of the choir in person.

The 4-hour tour ends near Sylvia's, a restaurant located next to a church in the neighborhood of Harlem, on Malcolm X Boulevard
