Gamboa Pipeline Road Birdwatching
Birdwatching Details
Good morning! Interested in seeing birds from the Panamanian tropical jungle? We'll pick you up from your hotel in Panama City and begin a journey of 31 mi (50 km) toward Gamboa.
Here, you'll discover a small town surrounded by the vast vegetation of the Soberanía National Park. Upon arrival, we'll step on one of the most legendary trails in Central America for birdwatching: the Camino del Oleoducto, also known as Pipeline Road.
As we advance, we'll tell you how these old pipelines were originally built as part of the Panama Canal. Today, they are remains that nature has completely covered.
On our 4-hour hike, we'll observe the treetops and spot bird species such as the white-tailed trogon and the whooping motmot. If you're lucky, you'll even spot the keel-billed toucan or rainbow-billed toucan, one of the most special birds to see due to its feathers.
We'll be surrounded by a dense flora and find ourselves under the shade of tropical trees, among which the tree, the mountain almond, and the wild cashew stand out. We'll also see ferns, lianas, and bromeliads hang from them like threads from an old blanket.
Finally, after concluding our hike and learning about the birds of Gamboa, we'll begin our journey back to Panama City, where we'll drop you off at your hotel after 6 hours.
