Montmartre Free Walking Tour
Take a tour through the narrow streets oozing with history in this most cultural and artistic of Paris' districts, one which artists such as Picasso and Van Gogh sought out for inspiration.
Montmartre Free Walking Tour
Montmartre typifies all things Parisian, from terrace cafes to romping bars and clubs, drunken can-can dancers to street artists and performers. This tour passes through tiny cobblestone streets to take in bourgeois-bohemian apartments and discover what made Van Gogh, Lautrec, Monet, Picasso and Dali want to call this most libertine of Parisian districts home.
The tour begins on the outskirts of Montmartre by the infamous Moulin Rouge and from there we'll climb the hill to seek out the Café des Deux Moulins (from the movie Amélie), the House of Van Gogh and Paris' last windmill.
You'll visit Place des Abbesses, where you can see one of the city's oldest surviving churches and the famous Wall of Love. Continuing on, we'll admire Montmartre classics like the Bateau Lavoir, Place Dalida, a famous local cabaret and the area's last vineyard, making sure to pass through the artsy square of Place du Tertre.
At the top of the hill sits the Basilica Sacré Coeur. Adorned by two statues of French national heroes Joan of Arc and King Saint Louis IX, the basilica has both gardens with a fountain and a dome open to tourists. Perched at Paris' highest point, this grand temple offers spectacular views of the city below, easily vying with the Eiffel Tower for the title of the best view in Paris.
