Great job by the guide Walter to show us the very different life that the Uros people lead. The explanations of the guide as well as that of the inhabitants make you appreciate the life of these people. Spectacular views throughout the activity.

Trip to the Uros Islands & Taquile

Having picked you up from your hotel between 6:50 am and 7:20 am, we'll head to the port in Puno. Here, we'll board a boat and set sail on Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake, located at 12,500 feet (3,810 metres) above sea level.

When you make your reservation, you'll choose between a cruise by normal boat or by speedboat. If you choose the regular boat, the tour will last 10 hours, while the speedboat tour lasts 8 hours.

The first stop on our tour of Lake Titicaca will be the famous floating Uros Islands. We'll step off the boat and explore one of the main islands to meet the Uru people who live here. The locals will tell us all about their ancestors' pre-Inca culture, one of the oldest in the Andean Altiplano, as we admire the impressive artificial archipelago on which they live. Did you know that the islands are made from a plant called totora?

Next, we'll set sail once again and head to Taquile Island; the largest island on Lake Titicaca, enjoying the incredible lake and mountain views on the way. Reaching Taquile, we'll delve into local culture discovering the weaving techniques used by the island's inhabitants to make their famous textiles.

Afterwards, we'll make a stop to renew energy with a delicious traditional lunch (optional), before saying farewell to the islands of Lake Titicaca.

At the end of the tour, you'll be dropped back off at your hotel in Puno between 3:30 pm and 5 pm, depending which boat tour you've booked.

Hotel Pick Up

This tour includes pick up from hotels in the centre of Puno. If you're staying elsewhere, you'll have to make your own way to the meeting point at Plaza de Armas for the scheduled time.

Itinerary changes

The visit to Taquile Island is temporarily unavailable due to operating problems. The island of Amantani will be visited instead.

Uros Island Tour

If you don't have enough time to take this trip, you could take our Uros Islands Tour, where you'll enjoy a boat trip on Lake Titicaca and you'll explore the Uros Island, but you won't visit Taquile.
