Sail across the waters of Lake Titicaca and discover local traditions on the floating Uros Islands and the beautiful Taquile Island. Plus, you'll enjoy a delicious traditional lunch.
Trip to the Uros Islands & Taquile
We'll come and pick you up from your hotel first thing in the morning, and after a short drive, we'll reach the port of Puno. Here, we'll board a boat and set sail on the world's highest navigable lake (at 12,500 feet/ 3,810 metres above sea level).
After approximately one hour, we'll reach our first stop: the famous floating Uros Islands. We'll step off the boat and explore one of the main islands. These are intricately man-made by the Uru people from layers of reed found in the lake, and here you'll learn about this pre-Inca culture and their simple way of life.
Next, we'll set sail once again and head to Taquile Island; the largest island on Lake Titicaca. On the way, you'll be able to enjoy the incredible lake and mountain views, and when we arrive we'll take a gentle, one-hour hike around the island before reaching the traditional town of Taquile. The views here are stunning!
You'll be able to explore the local craft shops and discover more about the local culture, and then, before heading back to Puno, we'll take you to a restaurant where you can enjoy a delicious traditional lunch. This will consist of quinoa soup and you can choose between grilled trout or a vegetable omelette. Plus, you'll be able to wash this down with traditional drinks such as mate de coca or muña.
