Day Trip Details
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in San Francisco de Campeche and set off for Edzná, an outstanding Mayan site located on the Yucatán peninsula. Are you ready to discover one of the most impressive archaeological treasures of the region?
After almost an hour's drive, we'll arrive at this ancient Mayan city that thrived thanks to its sophisticated hydraulic system. We'll begin our 2-hour guided tour of the archaeological site by exploring the Great Acropolis and the famous Five Storey Building, a monumental structure that served as both a palace and an astronomical observatory.
We'll stroll among ceremonial temples as we discover how the ancient Maya aligned their constructions with the stars to measure time and perform sacred rituals. Did you know that this place was an important political and religious centre for more than a thousand years? You'll be surprised!
Next stop will be the historic Ex Hacienda San Luis Carpizo, a splendid ruin of the henequen boom, known as the "green gold" of Yucatán. Founded in the 19th century, this estate reflects the opulence and agricultural activity of the time, when henequen and sugar cane set the pace of rural life.
Today, the hacienda houses the facilities of the Ministry of the Navy, which gives it a curious mix of modernity and historical heritage. We'll spend an hour walking through its gardens, corridors and old workshops as we learn stories of work, wealth and transformation—a real time capsule!
Finally, we'll head to Champotón, a charming port on the Gulf of Mexico and famous for its gastronomy. Here, we'll enjoy a lunch with the best of Campeche's cuisine: fresh seafood, fish with garlic mojo, octopus in its own ink and other delicacies prepared by traditional cooks.
Having eaten lunch, you'll have free time to stroll along the boardwalk, relax by the sea or take some pictures of the coastal scenery—an ideal way to end the day!
After 2.5 hours in Champotón, we'll return to Campeche and say goodbye at your hotel after a 9-hour day trip.
