Manuel Antonio National Park Day Trip

  • 157 reviews | 1,802 travellers
The drive from San José is long, so I'd recommend staying one night to enjoy the beaches. The best part of the journey is that you hear about the local wildlife along the way; in this case, it was Mario, our guide, who told you about it and was also very helpful during our tour of the Manuel Antonio rainforest. The beaches are beautiful, although the waves can be rough. Once you're there, there are many trails where you can walk and see monkeys, climb to viewpoints, or go for a swim.

Manuel Antonio National Park Day Trip

At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in San José and head by road toward Manuel Antonio National Park. Along the way, you'll see African palm plantations and picturesque Costa Rican villages.

Halfway through the journey, we'll stop for breakfast at a restaurant next to the largest fruit market in the country. Once we've recharged, we'll continue on and, after 2.5 hours on the road, we'll finally arrive at the entrance to Manuel Antonio National Park. Once there, we'll cross a stream to head into this incredible nature reserve, where idyllic beaches with crystal-clear waters await.

Manuel Antonio is one of the best-known national parks in Costa Rica and one of its most biodiverse natural spaces. As we make our way through, we'll spot native plant species such as black guanipol, ceiba, and cenízaro trees, as well as mangroves and manchineel.

We'll also keep an eye out for the park's native wildlife. Monkeys, sloths, toucans, agoutis... the range of endemic animals in Manuel Antonio National Park is remarkable! Alongside its many mammals, the park is home to a wide variety of birdlife, with tropical species of all kinds.

After the tour of the park, you'll have around 3 hours of free time to enjoy its beaches. We'll then recharge with a delicious traditional lunch at a local restaurant.

Finally, we'll wrap up this approximately 12-hour day trip back at your hotel in San José.
