Angkor Wat Private Tour Itinerary
After being picked up from your hotel in Siem Reap at the selected time, you'll be driven to the north of the city, where the Angkor complex is located. This enormous city of temples was the capital of the Khmer Empire from its construction in the 12th century up until the 1400s, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Your guided tour will start at Angkor Wat, the most important temple in the complex, and the only one which remained in use after the fall of the Khmer Empire in the 15th century. Designed to be the earthly representation of the Hindu centre of the universe, Mount Meru, it transformed into a Buddhist centre of worship from the end of the 12th century, and to this day you'll see Buddhist monks meditating in this unique architectural masterpiece.
Next, visit the Ta Promh Temple, an ancient Buddhist monastery whose ruins are slowly being taken over by the surrounding jungle vegetation. Stroll amongst the crumbling stone walls and soaring tropical trees growing out of them, and see if you recognise the setting: this mythical place was used in the filming of Tomb Raider.
After exploring these fascinating temples, regain your energy with a delicious lunch in a typical local restaurant.
You'll then continue your tour to the monumental southern gate of Angkor Thom, or "Great City", where the last Khmer kings ruled before the Thai conquest in the 15th century. Explore the Bayon temple and admire the incredible bas-reliefs of smiling faces which decorate its walls.
Visit the Baphuon Temple, the Phimeankas Palace and the so-called Terrace of Elephants located inside the old walled city as your guide entertains you with tales of the Leper King and other fascinating historical facts about Angkor.
After an unforgettable experience watching the sunset over Angkor Wat (optional), you'll return back to your hotel in Siem Reap after an incredible 9 hour tour.
When you book, you can choose between two different options.
Sunrise Trip (4:30 am)
We'll pick you up at 4:30 am from your hotel and head to the Temples of Angkor to admire the sunrise, an experience that, despite having to get up so early, you'll never forget. You won't regret it! After the sunrise, we'll take you to a remote temple in the jungle so you can have breakfast and listen to the sounds of nature.
After breakfast, we go on the tour mentioned above. This tour will end at 3 pm back to your hotel in Siem Reap.
Daytime Trip (8:30 am)
With this option, you'll enjoy the Angkor Temples with the sun high in the sky and enjoy the temples in the most traditional way. The itinerary will be the one mentioned above.
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Siem Reap at 8:30 am and take you back at the end of the tour at 5:30 pm.
