Free Tour of Sofia
At 10:30 am the tour meets in front of the courthouse: and the free tour of the capital of Bulgaria begins! From there we'll make our way to the heart of the old town, filled with surprises around every turn!
First of all, we'll get to know the history of Sofia, filled with Thracians, Macedonians, Greeks, Romans, Ottomans and cultures from all over the world. The result is a city that reflects every one of the cultures and ideologies that has lived there, and can be seen in the eclectic architectural style!
First we'll pass by the St Nedelya Church, and the city's Roman ruins before reaching the Banya Bashi Mosque, one of many signs of the presence of the Ottoman empire ain the Bulgarian Capital. Then it's onwards to the Sofia Synagogue, where we'll discover the terrible acts which took place during the Second World War.
Among other highlights, is the headquarters of the Bulgarian Communist Party, the Parliament Building, the National Theatre, and the Royal Palace. And we'll pass by the "Largo", an ensemble of three Stalinist buildings from the 1950s, and one of he most popular sights in the city, as well as the Statue of Sveta Sofia and the Sveti Georgi (St. George) church.
And the cherry on the cake comes when we make our way to the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, considered one of the most beautiful orthodox buildings in the world. Sure to be a hit!
The tour then comes to an end at around 1 pm.
