Description
Day 1
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Uyuni and begin a fascinating 2-day tour of the Uyuni Salt Flat.
We'll start our excursion by visiting the Train Cemetery, a very special place in the already unique area of Uyuni. There, our guide will explain the reason why so many trains and locomotives from the late 19th and early 20th centuries were completely abandoned and have survived to the present day.
Afterwards, we'll head to see the immensity of the Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt desert in the world, almost 11,000 square kilometres (4247 square miles) in size. During our tour, we'll visit its main tourist attractions, such as Colchani, the piles of salt or the first hotel made of salt in the world, which today has become an interesting museum.
Next, we'll stop for lunch in the middle of the salt desert, combining Bolivian gastronomy with the breathtaking white landscape of the Salar de Uyuni in a unique experience. After lunch, we'll hike around Isla Incahuasi, an isolated territory surrounded by the white desert where we'll be able to see giant cacti up to 10 metres (32 feet) high.
To end the day, we'll continue touring the beauty of this peculiar desert while waiting for one of the most beautiful sunsets of your life. Do you have your camera ready? You'll need it!
We'll finish our first day in the Salar de Uyuni, returning to our hotel around 7 pm.
Day 2
After breakfast at the hotel, we'll head to the colonial Iglesia de Tomave church. This historic Bolivian temple is one of the country's great treasures of baroque architecture and can boast stories that will leave you speechless. Did you know that it sheltered Bolivian troops during the War of the Pacific?
Afterwards, we'll go to the Saruvo hot springs, where you can relax while you take a bath in its facilities. After this stop, we'll head to the desert's different lagoons to visit the Laguna K'asilla and the Laguna Verde.
After lunch, we'll start our journey back to Uyuni, where we'll arrive around 6 pm, thus ending our 2-day tour of the Salar de Uyuni.
