St Mark's Basilica & Doge's Palace Tickets + Audio Guide
St Mark's Basilica
In St Mark's Square stands Venice's most important church. Considered the great masterpiece of Byzantine art in the Veneto region, St Mark's Basilica has become a true symbol of the city of canals.
Its architecture and decoration evoke the eastern Mediterranean, with a facade that is an authentic urban and political stage set. Its porticoes, arcades, and tympanum are in perfect harmony with the square.
Inside, you'll admire its marble cladding and a spectacular display of golden mosaics covering the ceilings. In fact, did you know that the basilica is also known as the Golden Church? The 86111 ft² (8000 m²) of mosaics covered in gold leaf will leave you speechless.
Doge's Palace
Thanks to this ticket, you'll also cross the threshold of the Doge's Palace, the former center of government of La Serenissima. This monument is so significant that it was the residence of the Doge, the seat of the courts, and the stage for republican diplomacy.
You'll be able to access the inner courtyard, designed as a ceremonial space that blends elements of Venetian Gothic and Italian Renaissance architecture. You'll also see the Scala dei Giganti, built for public ceremonies, and understand how the architecture here served as propaganda.
In the building's loggias and galleries, you'll be able to identify its most characteristic features, such as the openwork tracery, the pointed arches, and the powerful rhythm of columns supporting the facades that open onto the Piazzetta.
In the main halls of the Doge's Palace, you'll see large-scale rooms designed for government use, featuring coffered ceilings, friezes, and pictorial cycles celebrating naval victories and the founding myths of the Republic of Venice.
Ticket Options
During the booking process, you can choose between the following options:
- Standard Ticket: you'll have included tickets to St Mark's Basilica and Doge's Palace, as well as an audio guide in English.
- Ticket + Museum of the Basilica & Terrace: in this case, along with the two monuments, you'll have access to the Museum of St Mark's Basilica and climb up to its terrace to complete your visit with a more technical analysis of the complex. You'll also have an audio guide in English.
How Does the Tour Work?
On the day of your visit, you'll need to go to the meeting point in Campo San Zaccaria, where we'll give you your tickets and accompany you to St Mark's Basilica. Here, we'll enter the basilica with you, as per the site's regulations, but you'll explore on your own, following the explanations of the audio guide in English.
After leaving St Mark's Basilica, you'll be free to head to the Doge's Palace, located less than a 5-minute walk from the Basilica.
The best part? With this ticket, you won't have to wait in the entrance lines at either monument, although you'll still have to go through security checks, which may cause occasional delays depending on the number of visitors.
