Rock in Rio is much more than just a festival: it’s a veritable musical institution that transforms Rio de Janeiro into the world capital of rock and pop. This year’s lineup features Foo Fighters opening the festival, Avenged Sevenfold and Bring Me the Horizon, a historic onstage meeting between Elton John and Gilberto Gil on Brazilian Independence Day, along with Maroon 5, Stray Kids, Jamiroquai, Demi Lovato, Mumford & Sons, Machine Gun Kelly, and Brazilian legends Sepultura.

Since this festival was established in 2005, it has become a household name, bringing together world-class electronic dance lineups, backed by incredible stage designs. This year, the lineup will be headed by David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Fisher, Armin van Buuren, and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, with more than 500 artists performing across 16 stages under this year’s theme, ‘Consciencia‘.
Boom is just a 30-minute train ride from Antwerp, which is a brilliant and certainly underrated city to explore, with fantastic architecture, fascinating history, and all of the Belgian chocolate you could possibly eat.

4. Reading Festival (UK)
When: August 27-30
Where: Richfield Avenue, Reading, England
Vibe: Rock, pop, hip-hop, electronic
Next up on our list is Reading Festival, one of the UK’s most celebrated musical institutions. Every August Bank Holiday, Reading hosts some of the world’s biggest rock, pop, and hip-hop acts, with a history that stretches back to 1971.
This year, Reading will be headlined by Charli XCX, Chase & Status, Dave, Florence + The Machine, Fontaines D.C., and RAYE, making this the first time in 25 years that the festival has an exclusively British and Irish set of headliners. Also on the bill are Skepta, Sombr, Role Model, JADE, Kneecap, Geese, Loyle Carner, Declan McKenna, Holly Humberstone, Gunna, and Viagra Boys. New for 2026 is The Warehouse, a purpose-built home for dance music at the festival.

5. Sziget Festival (Hungary)
When: August 11-15
Where: Óbuda Island, Budapest

If you’re looking for a festival that combines a festive atmosphere with great musical diversity, the Sziget Festival in Budapest is for you! Every year, Óbuda Island is transformed into a gigantic playground for music lovers, and this year, the stage will be graced by Twenty One Pilots, Florence + The Machine, Lewis Capaldi, Sombr, Bring Me The Horizon, and Zara Larsson, with Underworld returning for the first time in over 20 years, along with Biffy Clyro, Parcels, Dom Dolla, Tash Sultana, Wolf Alice, Nia Archives, and many more.
The festival is a veritable melting pot of cultures, music, and arts, where you can see your favorite artists and, of course, discover new sounds. But why leave new experiences there? 6. Primavera Sound (Spain)

Next up on our list is a festival that takes place in the eccentric city of Barcelona, where Primavera Sound, a fixture on the European music scene. This unique festival mixes the best-known artists with emerging talent in a relaxed, creative atmosphere. This year’s festival will attract music fans with headliners Doja Cat, Massive Attack, and Bad Gyal on Thursday, The Cure, Addison Rae, and Skrillex on Friday, and The xx, Gorillaz, and My Bloody Valentine on Saturday. With The Cure returning for the first time since 2012, and both My Bloody Valentine and The xx emerging from long hiatuses, this year’s edition has been called a return to Primavera’s rock roots. The festival has already fully sold out for the second consecutive year.
Attending Primavera Sound is the perfect excuse to soak up Catalan culture, in the capital of Catalonia, Barcelona. 7. Lollapalooza (USA)

Lollapalooza Chicago returns to Grant Park for its 22nd edition, promising four days of genre-spanning performances beneath the city’s iconic skyline. The 2026 lineup is headlined by Charli XCX, The Smashing Pumpkins, Lil Uzi Vert, YUNGBLUD, Lorde, and Major Lazer, with standout sets from John Summit, Empire of the Sun, Wet Leg, Blood Orange, 5 Seconds of Summer, Little Simz, Zara Larsson, Freddie Gibbs, and Suki Waterhouse.

8. Burning Man (USA)

The 2026 theme, ‘Axis Mundi,’ draws on the ancient concept of a cosmic centerpoint connecting us with powers greater than ourselves. Festival-goers build a temporary city, Black Rock City, complete with art cars, theme camps, and immersive sound camps, where electronic music and avant-garde performance art merge under the night sky. While there is no lineup for Burning Man, great DJs invariably attend the festival and perform, including Diplo and Carl Cox, among others.

9. All Together Now (Ireland)
When: July 30-August 2

All Together Now is a boutique festival set in the lush Irish countryside, blending music, art, food, and wellness across 20+ stages for a true weekend of discovery. The 2026 edition, the festival’s seventh, is to be headlined by Kneecap (fresh off what was widely hailed as the most talked-about Glastonbury set in 20 years), Pulp (their first festival headline in 15 years), The Mary Wallopers, and Christy Moore making his first Irish festival appearance in 14 years, with a supporting cast that includes Underworld, Disclosure, The Avalanches, Self Esteem, Ezra Collective, Mogwai, Floating Points, Kae Tempest, Maribou State, and Chet Faker. Every year, this festival brings together over 2.5 million people for three days of concerts on the Danube island. Expect performances ranging from mainstream pop to underground electronic music, all in an idyllic setting with spectacular views over the city of Vienna. The full 2026 lineup will be announced in May, but the festival consistently mixes international stars with the best of Austrian and German-language music across 16+ stages.
