In its day it rivalled Chichén Itzá for dominance of the Yucatán peninsula, and today the Mayan city of Cobá is home to the tallest pyramid in the area, which we will climb to see the sunrise.
We'll pick you up from your hotel first thing in the morning and hit the road, on the way to the Cobá enclave.
Avoiding the heat by arriving early in the morning, the tour will enjoy the crimson light on Cobá's archaeological remains - whose name in English would mean either "water" or "humidity". This name refers to the lagoons which surround the ancient Mayan city, which we'll also visit on our tour, being an unmissable part of the Cobá experience.
We'll see the splendour which the settlement represented in the years it fought for hegemony on the Yucatán peninsula by visiting its principal buildings, such as the astronomical observatory. And we'll discover the Mayan roots of Cobá, where historians have found enigmatic keys to this pre-colonial civilisation. Here you can find evidence of the Mayans' famed astrological knowledge, as here is their equally famously prophesied date of the end of the world.
The tour continues with a bicycle tour up to Nohoch Mul, the tallest pyramid in the area. From the top, you can get spectacular views of the leafy landscape surrounding Cobá. And having descended the pyramid once more, you can enjoy a swim in the Choo-Há cenote (underground pool commonly found in the Yutacan peninsula): an unforgettable experience.
Finally, we'll return by bus to Cancún, arriving around 3 pm.
This trip includes pick up and drop off at the majority of hotels in Cancún.
You can also reserve the tour leaving from Riviera Maya.
For security reasons, it's obligatory to use a life jacket (not included) when swimming in the cenote.
