Roskilde Day Trip Itinerary

Meet your English-speaking guide at the Copenhagen Central Station on the morning of your tour. From here, you'll catch the train to Roskilde, where you'll arrive after a journey of approximately 25 minutes.

Enjoy a guided walking tour of this historic city, admiring the exquisite architecture of its magnificent red-brick Gothic Cathedral. This enormous church, built during the 12th and 13th centuries and recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, is the final resting place of 39 Danish monarchs. As you marvel at the spectacular building, your guide will reveal curious facts about the history of the most famous royals, whose court intrigues will doubtless surprise you.

Continue your tour of Roskilde to the famous Viking Ship Museum, located at the harbour of the Roskilde Fjord, still a busy active port for many boats. Amongst the different vessels exhibited as part of the fascinating collection you'll see the longest Viking warship in the world, which at 118 feet (36 m) in length had the capacity for up to 100 warriors on board. It is also home to the Skuldelev ships, five original Viking boats which were sunk almost 1000 years ago to protect the city from attacks from the sea.

Following your visit of the museum, you'll return to Roskilde station to take the train back to Copenhagen, where you'll arrive at about 1 pm.

Free time

Instead of returning to Copenhagen with your tour group around 1 pm, you'll have the option to spend the rest of your day in Roskilde. In this case, you can enjoy lunch in the city, visit the Cathedral or take a Viking boat trip on the Fjord. If you decide to stay in Roskilde, please remember to check the train times for you return journey to Copenhagen.
