  • 13 hours 30 mins

See the Upsala Glacier up close on this boat ride around the Los Glaciares National Park. You can also hike through the Patagonian forests, get in touch with rural life at Estancia Cristina and even go for a jeep ride!

Upsala Glacier Trip

Ready for a day full of Patagonian nature and icy landscapes? After picking you up at your hotels at 7 am, we'll set off on an hour and a half's drive to the quay at Punta Bandera

Then we'll hop on board a boat and set sail to Estancia Cristina farmhouse. We'll cross the Upsala channel and approach the magnificent glacier. At 11:30 am we'll arrive at the estancia where you'll be able to choose between two different options. You'll be asked to select one when you book.

Walking Tour

After docking at Estancia Cristina, we'll set off on a medium-difficulty hike through the area. Accompanied by the guide, you'll walk across a Patagonian forest where you'll be able to see Antarctic beech trees and native bird species. We'll walk up until we reach a viewpoint where we'll be able to enjoy a stunning panoramic view of Lake Argentino.

Then we'll continue uphill with one objective in mind: reaching the Los Perros waterfall. This waterfall and the spectacular view of the Caterina River valley will take your breath away. We'll then enter the Museo Costumbrista of the Estancia to learn a little more about rural life in this region. We will also visit the chapel at Estancia Cristina, the water mill and other places of interest.

At 5:30 pm we'll take a boat to the port of Punta Bandera where a vehicle will be waiting for us to take us back to El Calafate, where we'll arrive by about 8:30 pm.

Jeep ride

Once we dock at Estancia Cristina you'll hop on board a 4x4 that will be driven by your guide. You'll whizz off to the Feruglio mountain range and start a 20-minute walk towards the viewpoint of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. Did you know it is the third-largest ice expanse in the world?

Back in the jeep returning to Estancia Cristina you'll have an hour of free time to eat and rest. Afterwards, we'll visit the Costumbrista Museum, the water mill and the chapel at Estancia Cristina. At 5:30 pm we'll take a boat to the quay at Punta Bandera. From there, we'll drive back to El Calafate, arriving by 8:30 pm.

Book without transfers

Do you want to travel to Estancia Cristina yourself? You can book without transfers. If you do, you'll have to meet your guide at the quay at the Estancia, located at Punta Bandera, at 8 am.

On the return journey, the boat will drop you back off at the quay at 7:30 pm.
