Marrakech Old Town Guided Walking Tour
Tour Details
At the designated time, we'll meet at Café de France in Djemaa el-Fnaa. In this square, after a brief introduction, we'll kick off our guided walking tour of Marrakech's old town.
First, we'll begin at the Bahia Palace, a 19th-century architectural masterpiece that embodies the luxury and grandeur of Moroccan royalty. As we explore its elegant courtyards and richly decorated rooms, we'll admire the intricate zellij mosaics, carved cedar ceilings, and refined craftsmanship that once defined royal life.
Then, we'll step into the lively atmosphere of the Medina and make our way to Souk Semmarine, one of Marrakech's most vibrant markets, renowned for traditional clothing and finely crafted leather goods. Along the way, we'll meet local artisans and learn about the techniques and cultural significance behind their work.
Afterward, we'll continue toward the Souk El Attarine, famous for its spices, perfumes, and natural beauty products. Nearby, we'll observe craftsmen at work in traditional workshops, where pottery, metalwork, and wooden artifacts are handmade. These skills have been passed down through generations!
Next, we'll visit the Ben Youssef Madrasa, an iconic Quranic school dating back tothe Saadian era. Here, you'll marvel at the harmony of architecture and spirituality. We'll then wander through the winding streets of the Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where we'll gain a deeper understanding of Marrakech's cultural heritage and daily life.
If time allows and depending on our pace, we can end our tour with a visit to Le Jardin Secret, a beautifully restored historic garden tucked away in the Medina. This peaceful oasis showcases elegant Islamic art and architecture, perfect for escaping the city's hustle and bustle.
Finally, we'll return to the square of Djemaa el-Fnaa, where we'll conclude our tour after 3.5 to 4 hours.
