Los Haitises National Park Day Trip
Day Trip Details
Still haven’t discovered the mogotes and caves of Los Haitises? Then we’ll meet at the Cayo Vigia pier, where we’ll set sail to visit one of the most beautiful places on the Samaná Peninsula.
During the crossing, we’ll sail across Samaná Bay while admiring the landscape of this region in northeastern Dominican Republic. Upon arriving at Los Haitises National Park, we’ll enter a landscape shaped by karst erosion, responsible for the limestone rock formations that rise from the water like fortified islets.
Our first stop will be at Cueva de la Arena. There, we’ll observe this geological environment up close and understand how the combined action of the sea, rain, and time has shaped these caverns.
Next, we’ll switch pace and hop into kayaks to paddle through the mangroves from the Perlas dock to Cueva de la Línea, also known as Cueva del Ferrocarril. We’ll paddle for 20 minutes through this ecosystem, which is characteristic of the park and essential for the area’s biodiversity and the natural protection of the coastline.
Back on the boat, we’ll continue the route past Cayo de las Garzas, an enclave of great ecological value where, depending on the season, we may spot birds and nests in their natural habitat. We’ll also sail past Cueva de Willy Simón while learning about its history.
To end the experience on a high note, we’ll enjoy the sunset in Los Haitises with a glass of wine while admiring spectacular views of the park. During the day trip, we’ll also enjoy tropical fruit, snacks, water, and soft drinks.
Finally, we’ll return to the departure pier after 6 hours of sightseeing.
