Travel to the past with this trip to Pulacayo where you will visit the historic train museum and the most important silver mines in Bolivia.
We will pick you up from your hotel at the time you choose before heading to Pulacayo, located just 6 miles from Uyuni.
During the journey, we will stop at the Uyuni Salt Flat viewpoint, where you will have the opportunity to capture this spectacular salt desert on camera. This is one of the most impressive natural enclaves in Bolivia! When then continue on the road to Pulacayo, the most important mining city in the country.
Pulacayo still preserves the old iron locomotives that look like they belong in a wild west movie and were used to transport the silver extracted from the mines. During the tour, we will hear all about Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and their legendary train robberies and the history that links them to this place.
As we walk through this open-air train museum, we will see how time has stood still in this place and we will learn about the importance of Pulacayo's mining wealth, which represented a great economic development for the whole country at the beginning of the 20th century.
We will continue knowing the history of Pulacayo by visiting the most important silver mines of Bolivia. Then, we will stroll through its streets and European style buildings, built to the taste of the English and German businessmen who moved here to start the mining and railway industry.
To finish in the best possible way, we will enjoy a glass of wine or tea. After three hours of touring Pulacayo, we then return to Uyuni and drop you at your hotel.
