The Carlsberg brewery is located right in the heart of Copenhagen, in the Vesterbro neighborhood, an area of the capital filled with bohemian cafés, art galleries, and designer shops. As you walk through the doors, you’ll begin a tour that takes you from the brand’s founding in 1847 to the Carlsberg of today. Thanks to interactive exhibits, you’ll see why science has been the backbone of Carlsberg beer since its inception: microbiology, fermentation control, precision in processes… It’s a true art!
Of course, this story wouldn’t be complete without its main protagonists: J. C. Jacobsen and his son Carl Jacobsen. Two visions, one family name, and a conflict that left its mark on how Denmark’s most famous beer is brewed.
You’ll also get to admire one of the world’s largest bottle collections, with over 22,000 specimens. You’ll end the tour in the best possible way: by enjoying a soft drink or a beer at the Carlsberg Bar.
Don’t miss the stables, where 4 horses await you. Why are they so famous? When J. C. Jacobsen founded the brewery, he had around 200 horses transporting beer to merchants across Copenhagen.

Home of Carlsberg is open during the following hours:
- January through April: Daily from 10 am to 6 pm. Fridays and Saturdays in weeks 7 and 8, from 10 am to 8 pm
- May and June: Sunday through Thursday, 10 am to 6 pm. Fridays and Saturdays, 10 am to 8 pm
- July and August: Daily from 10 am to 8 pm
- September: Sunday through Thursday, 10 am to 6 pm. Fridays and Saturdays, from 10 am to 8 pm
- October through December: Daily from 10 am to 6 pm. Fridays and Saturdays of week 42, from 10 am to 8 pm.
Special Hours
- January 1: Closed
- April 2–5: 10 am to 8 pm
- December 24–26: Closed
- December 31: 10 am to 4 pm.
In all cases, the last admission will be 2 hours before closing. Admission is granted every 15 minutes.
Please Note
- Entry to the exhibition must take place 2 hours before closing time. Upon arrival, you'll be informed of your entry time for the exhibition. Please note that on busy days, there may be long wait times.
- Beer will not be served to anyone under 18 years of age.
- The venue is not adapted for wheelchair access.
