Coyoacán, Xochimilco & Frida Kahlo Museum

  • 1,410 reviews | 18,682 travellers
Hi! We loved the experience, especially Mario's explanations. He's super friendly and shares very well-researched stories. The visit to the Blue House felt too short; an hour is far too little if you're interested in the subject. The boat ride through Xochimilco was a bit touristy due to the crowds, which was disappointing. Even so, I recommend it.

Tour Details

After meeting at a strategic point in the center, we'll head south of Mexico City until we get to Coyoacán, one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the capital. This area is famous for having been home to figures such as Leon Trotsky, Octavio Paz, Diego Rivera, and Frida Kahlo.

After stopping at a silver workshop, which may or may not be possible depending on the season, we'll arrive in Coyoacán, where we'll learn about its ancient history, from the settlement of the first communities in the highlands of Mesoamerica to its rise to power after the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors. You'll also have time to get yourself some breakfast.

We'll stroll through cobbled streets and picturesque squares while admiring its impressive 16th-century Baroque mansions. One of the most special moments of the day will arrive as we approach the Frida Kahlo Museum, located in the famous Casa Azul. We'll discover the intimate world of the Latin American artist by touring the house where she was born, created part of her work, and died.

Afterwards, depending on the season, we can visit the Autonomous University of Mexico to admire the majestic architecture of the largest university in Latin America. We'll admire the murals of the Rector's Office and the Central Library on campus, where more than 110 murals of different styles will captivate us with their unique visual narrative.

We'll continue our tour in Xochimilco and discover its splendid combination of natural and cultural heritage. There, we'll board a trajinera, a small traditional boat decorated with flowers, to sail the canals and artificial islands that have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Of course, you'll have time to enjoy a typical Mexican lunch on your own.

Finally, after a journey of approximately 9 hours, we'll begin our return to the starting point in Mexico City.

Tour with Lunch

With this option, you'll enjoy a more complete experience! In addition to the above itinerary, you'll have a regional lunch at a local restaurant included upon arrival in Xochimilco.
