Excellent information. My guide was Abel. He clearly has extensive knowledge of Oaxaca's history and was very engaging. I highly recommend him. Very friendly.

The Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, the Santo Domingo temple and other historic sites await us on this free tour of Oaxaca, one of the most beautiful cities in inland Mexico.

Tour Details

We'll kick off our Oaxaca free tour in front of the Museo de los Pintores Oaxaqueños, located in the Zócalo central square.

Firstly, we'll admire the façade of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, a gem built with the emblematic green quarry stone, a symbol of spirituality and local pride.

Our next stop will be the Mezcal Cultural Centre, where you'll discover the secrets behind Oaxaca's most representative drink: its artisanal production, its history and its profound cultural value.

Next, we'll continue on to the San Pablo Cultural Centre, a space where history and modernity coexist amid art, stone and tradition. From there, we'll head to the elegant Macedonio Alcalá Theatre, an icon of Oaxacan performing arts, famous for its Art Nouveau style and for being the stage where Mario Moreno "Cantinflas" made his debut.

A few steps away, we'll find the majestic Temple of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, a global symbol of Oaxaca and one of the most admired jewels of Mexican heritage due to its gold-covered interior and dazzling architectural beauty.

We'll also visit the Carmen Alto Temple, a historic site closely linked to the Guelaguetza tradition. Finally, we'll conclude the tour at the Cruz de Piedra Square after 2 hours.
