Sal Island Tour
On this salt island tour from Santa Maria we'll discover secret pools and salt deserts and even swim with sharks- but don't worry these yellow lemon sharks are very friendly!
Sal Island Tour
First, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Santa Maria between 8:40 am and 9 am to discover the island of Sal, one of the most popular places in Cape Verde for tourists.
On this tour, we'll cross this island of volcanic origin from south to north, making stops in its most outstanding towns and places. First, we'll visit the town of Santa Maria, which in just two centuries went from being a salt extraction point to becoming one of the most important tourist centres of Cape Verde.
We'll continue our tour by passing by Kite Beach, famous for hosting world kitesurfing championships, and we'll stop at Porto Palmeira. In this small fishing village we'll stroll through its streets full of colourful houses and typical handicraft stalls.
Afterwards, we'll head to Pedra de Lume, did you know that it was the first village founded on the island of Sal? Here we'll discover how the salt trade influenced the local economy and visit its salt flats, the only place in the world where you can swim in a salt lake inside a volcanic caldera.
Our next stop will be at Miragem, a salt desert where you can see the optical effect that water and salt production in this ecosystem, and then we'll go to the Blue Eye, one of the wonders of the island. In this natural pool, we'll give you an hour of free time so you can take a swim and look for another hidden pool known as Love Cellar, a favourite of the locals.
The highlight of the excursion will be at Shark Bay, where we'll get to see the lemon sharks up close. The last stops will be at the nature reserve of Madeira Bay and Espargos, where we'll leave you free time for lunch.
Finally, we'll return to Santa Maria and drop you off at your hotel around 4 pm.
