    Construction began in the 13th century, but it took on its current appearance in the 15th century, as the stately residence of the Vivero family. Square in plan, it has circular towers at the corners, and on one side, a large rectangular keep, which juts out from the parade ground. It has had various palatial uses and was also the seat of the Cortes of Castile and León. Today, it is a castle interpretation center.
