Kiev Food Tour
Kiev Food Tour Itinerary
Meet at Contracts Square, or Kontraktova Ploshcha, located in Kiev's Podil district, ready to begin your culinary adventure. Your guide will be waiting for you next to the equestrian statue of Petro Konashevych-Sahaidachny, the 18th century political, civil and military leader.
From here, you'll stroll over to the port, seeing the house of the famous Balabukh family on your route. Why were they so important in Ukrainian gastronomy? In the 17th and 18th centuries, they produced the traditional candied fruits popular throughout Eastern Europe and known as dry varenye. Discover the different tricks they used in their cooking!
Remaining in the historic neighbourhood of Podil, you'll make your next stop in a local buffet restaurant. After indulging in the typical homemade delicacies on offer, you'll head to the heart of the city centre, home to the sugar production factories of the 19th century. And of course, while in the area, you'll have the opportunity to try some of the typical sweets from Kiev's most popular cafes.
Continue your culinary tour to the panoramic bar of the iconic TsUM shopping centre, where you'll wash down the delicious food you've eaten with a refreshing Ukrainian beer or a glass of wine.
You'll then delve deeper into the Eastern European country's traditional cuisine, visiting some typical local restaurants. Here you'll taste authentic chicken Kiev; borscht, a sour beetroot soup known for its vibrant red colour; varenyky, also known as pierogi and dumplings; and golubtsi, stuffed cabbage leaves, amongst much more. This is an experience not to be missed by food lovers!
