During this guided tour of Madrid, go back in time to the Muslim citadel of Mayrit (first name given to the city), find out about the Kingdom of Castile and discover the splendor of the city as capital of the Spanish Empire.
Legends of Old Madrid Guided Tour
Head to Calle Coloreros 2 where you’ll meet your guide and the rest of the group and head on a singular tour through the Medieval part of Madrid.
Led by your guide, you’ll discover the city’s history and its legends, for example the Church of San Ginés and the secret of the crocodile. You’ll then walk to Plaza de Oriente where you’ll learn about the mysteries of the Royal Palace of Madrid.
Go back in time while you walk through the winding streets of the capital and you’ll come to the charming Plaza de la Villa, one of the main “meeting points” during the Middle Ages. Next, wandering through the suburbs of the first settlement, you’ll explore La Latina and its famous Plaza de la Paja, the Church of San Pedro el Real, the Church of San Andrés, the Plaza de Puerta de Moros and the Museo de San Isidro (San Isidro Museum) that reflects the history of the city.
Follow the trace of the first Christian city wall until you arrive at Plaza de Puerta Cerrada, which was once one of the entrances to the city. It remained closed because it was continuously assaulted.
The tour will come to an end at the emblematic Plaza Mayor, one of the most important squares of Madrid.
