Delve into the fascinating history and culture of the city of Toledo, declared a UNESCO World Heritage SIte, on this full-day tour from Madrid and explore its streets accompanied by an expert guide.
Toledo Day Trip
Head to the city centre at 9 am, where you'll board a luxury air-conditioned coach and head to the City of Three Cultures, just 70 km south of the capital.
The historic centre of Toledo, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the oldest in Europe. It's often called the “City of the Three Cultures”, a town where the Muslims, Christians and Jewish communities lived together centuries ago. The Old Town has a magnificent array of landmarks including Renaissance, Baroque and Gothic and Al Andalus architecture.
Upon arrival, embark on a walking tour of Toledo and visit the Iglesia de Santo Tomé, containing the painting “The Burial of the Count of Orgaz” by El Greco, Santa María la Blanca Synagogue, one of the oldest synagogues in Castilla that date back to the Middle Ages and the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes.
Then, we'll visit the Toledo Cathedral to discover all the masterpieces of art housed by the "First Cathedral of Spain". After this visit, those who have chosen the lunch with tapas option will sample the gastronomy of Toledo. If you have not chosen the lunch option, you'll have free time to have lunch on your own.
In the afternoon, we'll regroup at Plaza de Zocodover for a sightseeing tour of Toledo to check out the exterior architecture of some of its monuments. We'll also visit the Mosque of Cristo de la Luz, built in the 10th century at the height of the Caliphate of Cordoba. Then we'll go to the Mirador del Valle, a scenic viewpoint of the valley where you'll have time to take incredible panoramic photos of Toledo.
Before leaving, we'll also discover the art technique called Damascending, an inlaying of different metals. This process is used for jewellery, plates and other artefacts. At the end of the day's tour, you'll be dropped off in the center of Madrid at 5 pm.
When you make your reservation, you must choose whether you prefer to eat on your own or book the option that includes a tapas menu, consisting of a small casserole of asadillo manchego with ventresca (tuna belly), the house Russian salad, a skewer of potato omelette, scrambled eggs with ham, a small casserole of Carcamusas and a drink (water, glass of wine, beer or soft drink). If you prefer, you can change the drink for another tapa or a dessert.
