Soweto Tour
Tour Details
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at 7346 Kumalo Street. Once the group is together, we’ll begin our tour of Soweto. Ready for a cultural immersion and a journey into the past?
First, we'll head to the Hector Pieterson Memorial, where you’ll learn about the significance of the 1976 Soweto Uprising, a crucial turning point in the apartheid system.
Then, we'll walk along Moema Street, retracing the route of the historic 1976 march. As we pass Vilakazi Street, we'll stop at Nelson Mandela's House, where he lived until his imprisonment. There, we'll give you 20 minutes of free time to go inside on your own and view the photographs and awards displayed on its walls.
Next, we'll pass by the home of Desmond Tutu, Anglican archbishop and iconic South African human rights activist. After that, we'll recharge at a local restaurant with a delicious kota, a popular street food similar to a sandwich.
With renewed energy, we’ll hop on a minibus to experience local transport, heading to Orlando East, home to the informal settlement of Nomzamo Park. There, you’ll gain insight into the daily life of its residents.
Nearby, you’ll find the famous Soweto Towers, where we’ll conclude our 4-hour tour.
