Chambers of the Romanov Boyars Guided Tour
Tour Details
We'll meet at the indicated time next to the Church of Saint Barbara in Moscow. From there, we'll walk among the old merchants' houses and period mansions on Varvarka Street. Among them stand the Chambers of the Romanov Boyars.
This residence belonged to Nikita Romanovich Yuryev, the grandfather of the first tsar of the Romanov dynasty, Michael I. Before the family came to imperial power, the Romanovs were part of the boyar nobility, the most influential group of landowners in the old Russian state. It was in this house that the dynasty that would rule Russia for more than 300 years began to take shape. Would you like to learn more about this history?
During the visit, we'll tour the different rooms in the mansion, built in white stone and brick in the traditional Muscovite style. On the ground floor, we'll see the storerooms and cellars, where food, household utensils and everyday objects were kept.
Meanwhile, on the upper floors, we'll discover the family rooms, which are decorated with 17th-century furniture, tapestries and tableware.
After a 2-hour tour, we'll end the guided visit in the courtyard of the Romanov Boyars' house.
