Why Visit the Domus of the Stone?

By booking these tickets to the Domus of the Stone (Domus dei Tappeti di Pietra), you'll have access to this fascinating archaeological site located in the Church of Sant'Eufemia. You'll be able to explore the rooms of this ancient Roman house at your own pace and marvel at its ornate mosaic floors, true artworks that have stood the test of time.

The Domus of the Stone, or the House of the Stone Carpets, is an extraordinary testament to the art of mosaics and Roman life in Ravenna. Did you know it was discovered by chance? Since it was inaugurated in 2002, this residence has revealed a set of exceptionally preserved mosaic floors dating from between the 5th and 6th centuries A.D.

Your ticket will let you dive into the different rooms as you admire the skill of the artists who created these “stone carpets” with amazing precision. From geometric designs to delicate details of flora and fauna, each mosaic tells a story. Ready to see them?

History & Art in the Church of Sant'Eufemia

Located inside the 18th-century Church of Sant'Eufemia, this large underground domus is 9.84 ft (3 m) below street level and made of 14 paved rooms with policromated mosaics and marbles, and belongs to a private Byzantine building. The mosaics decorated with geometric, floral, and figurative elements are particularly beautiful. They're considered one-of-a-kind!

Among its most famous treasures, you'll find the Danza dei Geni delle Quattro Stagioni, a fascinating representation that shows figures dancing in a circle. Another iconic mosaic is the Buon Pastore, represented in a different version than the Christian version of The Good Shepard. You'll be transported to a world of beauty and symbolism!

Opening Times

The Domus of the Stone is open from Monday to Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. The final admission is 30 minutes before closing.
