Moscow Free Tour
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet in front of the Karl Marx Monument in Revolution Square to begin this free walking tour of Moscow's historic centre.
From this central point, we'll begin our walk to the iconic Red Square, where the monument to USSR Marshal Georgy Zhukov will mark the start of our route. Next, we'll see the Orthodox temple of Kazan Cathedral. Despite its many vicissitudes, it has always served as an inspiration to its faithful. From there, we'll enter the famous Red Square.
We'll begin by admiring the spectacular façade of the State Historical Museum. Its striking, intense blood-red colour makes it one of the most beautiful buildings in the square, with the exception of St. Basil's Cathedral. Legend has it that Tsar Ivan the Terrible blinded the architect so that he could not reproduce his famous domes anywhere else.
On the west side of the square, we'll find two important monuments: the imposing Kremlin, the current seat of the Russian Federation government, and Lenin's mausoleum. At the foot of the Kremlin lie other illustrious figures such as Stalin and astronaut Yuri Gagarin.
We'll also head to the east side of the square to visit the GUM State Department Store, one of Moscow's most important shopping centres.
Next, we'll leave the square via the central street of San Nicolás and head towards Lubyanka Square. Here, we'll see the former headquarters of the KGB, the Russian secret service. We'll then walk along Teatral Avenue, passing the Children's Museum and the Maly and Bolshoi theatres.
At the end of this avenue, we'll arrive at Manezhnaya Plozhad Square. In this central location near Red Square, we'll conclude our free tour 2 hours later.
