VDNKh & Cosmonaut Museum Tour
Tour Details
We'll begin our tour next to the Monument to the Conquerors of Space. This gigantic monument, over 100 m (328 ft) tall and topped by a rocket, was erected in 1964 to pay tribute to the successes of the Soviet space programme. The monolith also serves as the main entrance to the Moscow Museum of Cosmonautics.
On our tour of the museum, we'll be able to see various types of satellites, capsules, rockets and space shuttles. We'll also get to learn about the life of astronauts in space.
We'll see various space suits used by Russian cosmonauts, as well as food specially prepared to be eaten in space. In the interactive areas, you can even feel first hand the sensation of space travel through a variety of videos, simulators and touch-sensitive displays.
Having visited the various halls of the permanent exhibition, we'll continue our tour of Soviet Moscow by visiting the All-Russia Exhibition Centre (VDNKh), located behind the museum. This exhibition site was constructed under the aegis of the USSR in tribute to state achievements.
Going through the Triumphal Arch, in the centre of this open space, we'll be able to see the Friendship of the Peoples Fountain, whose 15 golden statues represent the 15 republics of the USSR. Following this, you'll also visit the exteriors of the enormous pavillions which reflected Soviet military power.
We'll finish this 3-hour saying our goodbyes at the entrance of the VDNKh exhibition ground.
