Acqui Terme Private Tour
Acqui Terme Private Tour
At 9:30 am, your guide will be waiting for you in Piazzetta Abramo Levi. They'll take you on an excellent private tour of this city, which lies in the Bormida Valley and is well-known for its natural springs. During the Roman period, it had 3 thermal spas.
As you walk through the streets of the historic centre, you'll learn all about Acqui Terme's Jewish past. You'll discover that there was once a ghetto and a synagogue in the city, which was demolished after the Second World War, leaving the memorial plaque that stands there today.
You'll be catapulted back in time to the Middle Ages as you visit the Cathedral of Saint Guido. Inside, you'll be able to see the incredible Triptych of the Virgin of Montserrat, a masterpiece by the Flemish-Spanish painter Bartolomé Bermejo. You'll also see the Romanesque Addolorata Basilica and observe the Paleologi Castle, which houses the Acqui Terme archaeological museum, from the outside.
Our next stop will be at the foot of La Bollente, a famous thermal spring from which water gushes out at over 70 degrees. You'll then have some free time to have lunch in one of the local restaurants and try the delicious Monferrato gastronomy.
Once you've had lunch, we'll step away from the city centre and walk along Corso Bagni, where we'll find the archaeological site of a pool from the age of the Roman Empire. You'll also see the remains of the Roman aqueduct located on the banks of the Bormida di Spigno, the stream that flows through Acqui Terme.
After 6 hours of exploring the city, we'll say our goodbyes and end the private tour near Ponte Carlo Alberto.
