Aliano Private Tour
Aliano Private Tour
At your chosen time, we'll meet on Via Martiri d'Ungheria and get our private tour of Aliano started. Perched on a hill at an altitude of 1640 feet (500 metres), this village overlooks the Agri Valley and is renowned for both its natural environment and history.
During our tour, we'll stroll through the old town of Aliano and admire the Church of San Luigi Gonzaga and the traditional houses we'll see. We'll also head to several lookout points that offer incredible views of this area's spectacular ravines.
In addition, we'll visit the Museum of Rural Civilization to gain a better understanding of daily life in this small village in the province of Matera. In the museum, we'll see ancient farming tools, items used in oil production and milking, a rural dwelling and other interesting exhibits.
As we stroll through Aliano we'll come to the façade of Carlo Levi's house, where this famous painter and writer lived during the Fascist regime. We'll discuss why he was held captive in this town and some of his most notable works, such as Christ Stopped at Eboli. Our final stop will be the tomb of Carlo Levi, where the remain of this writer are laid to rest.
We'll then say our goodbyes and finish our tour at the starting point or a central location of your choice.
