Day Trip to Trunyan Village & Batur Lake Hot Springs
Trunyan Day Trip
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Bali to go to the town of Ulundanu, where we'll board a boat to sail Lake Batur.
We'll sail for 2 hours and enjoy the exotic Balinese landscapes that surround this famous lagoon. Then, we'll disembark in the village of Trunyan, also known as Skull Island. Upon arrival, we'll discover the reason for this nickname.
This traditional Balinese village is famous for its custom of not burying the deceased, but placing them in bamboo cages under a sacred tree called Taru Menyan. This tree is said to give off a pleasant aroma that neutralizes the odors of decomposition and, therefore, makes it bearable to live next to an open cemetery like the one in Trunyan.
We'll see this macabre spectacle of skulls and learn about some of the legends surrounding this peculiar village. For example, did you know that only married people receive the honor of having their remains laid to rest in the cages?
After this curious visit, we'll stop at a local restaurant in Kintamani so you can have lunch on your own.
Then, we'll take you to the natural hot springs of Lake Batur for a relaxing bath in its warm, steaming waters. Afterwards, we'll start our way back to Ulundanu, stopping along the way to visit a coffee plantation.
Once in Ulundanu, we'll drive back to your hotel, dropping you off 9 hours after initial pickup.
